I am trying to find out more information about Ira Slate and his wife Harriet Wyllis/Willis. He is reported to have lived in Berrien County, MI, before 1863 and as late as 1901 when a biographical sketch appears for him in a Jackson County history book. Ira was born in Orleans Co., NY; Harriet in MI. Ira and Harriet had one daughter, Ellen.
Ira was supposedly in the Michigan 12th Regiment, Co K, enlisting in 1863 and then returning to Berrien County upon his discharge.
