I recently noticed a posting on Gen.com regarding your Slates. I would very much like to exchange any information you have with what I have on the Slates. I have an ancestor John A. Slate that was born 1787 in Virginia. He was in Henry County, Tennessee in 1827 (when he paid his “Free Mans” tax) until 1843 when his daughter (Elizabeth Slate) was born there in Henry County; by 1845, John A. Slate and family had moved to Missouri. While John A. Slate resided in Henry County, Tennessee, he had three children by his wife (name unknown) with whom he had three children (James; Unknown boy; and Harriett born 1837). On Sept. 10, 1838, he married his second wife (Frances (Fannie) Hamblin, there in Henry County. He and Fannie had three children while living in Henry County (Henry Chesterfield Slate born 1 MAR 1840) (Jairus Doria "Coon" Slate) and (the above-mentioned daughter (Elizabeth) was born. After John A. and Fannie moved their family to Part of Wright County, Missouri that later became Webster County, they had five more children. After the family moved to Missouri I have a complete rundown on them, but while they were in Henry County, Tennessee I have very little knowledge of them and what they did while there. For example John A. Slate is listed as a farmer in the censes, but still I am unable to locate any land records for him in Henry County; I do not even know what township they lived in.
