Can anyone doing SLATE research in Virginia tell me if they have a John A. SLATE in their file? According to census records he was born 1787 in Virginia [county or township unknown].
By 1827 he has moved with his first wife [name unknown] to Henry County, Tennessee where he paid his “Free Mans Tax”. He had three children with his first wife, two boys and one girl by the name of Harriett born in 1837. When he was 51 years old he married his second wife, Frances (Fannie) HAMBLIN, 10 SEP 1838 with whom he had at lest eight more Children.
Some have said that his father’s name may have been Samuel. Would appreciate any information you may have. Glad to share what I have.
