Yes the Sladens are proving to be an elusive lot.
My Edwin did not have a father listed on his birth cert but I found him later listed as a son with Joel & Mary Rigg in Wardle. His dtr, my granny, was Hetty Rigg Sladen!
The famous Sladen owned the Beach Hotel at Hollingworth Lake.
I contribute to www.todmordenandwalsden.co.uk which has a lot of info but not too much on the Sladens. Dorothy, who is one of the co-editors, has connections with teh Sladens as well. If you have not seen it it is worth a look as a social history of the area.
