My files (which are really my uncle's files) have one of the brothers of Thomas Skuce, named Daniel, marying Kate Gosnell. "James" is reported to be another brother. The brothers are stated to be the sons of Edward Skuce and Elizabeth Cole.
My uncle's research indicates that Thomas was born in Glengariff and worked for "Lord Bantry" and later for a banking firm in Dublin. He married Elizabeth Gossen and sailed, in 1847, with his wife and their first child (also named Elizabeth) and his wife's mother, to Canada. Thomas built a log cabin on a small farm at White Ridge near Ormond, Ontario. He later moved to Hallsville and then to Mountatin. Thomas married Cynthia Eberts after the death of his first wife and, all-tolled, had 21 children.
The (11) children with Elizabeth Gossen are reported to be Elizabeth (1847-1913), Mary Ann (1849-1940), James (1851-1916), Catherine (1852-1890), Thomas (1854-1932), Margaret (1865-1940), William (1858-1930), Frank (1860-1930), John (1862-1946), Daniel (1865-1964), and Rebecca (1867-1914).
I doubt that my uncle's information can be correct, when it is indicated that Elizabeth Gossen was having children even while she was in her late 50s. Perhaps the genealogy has confused her with Elizabeth Gosnell, whose birth in 1823 would seem to accord better with the years in which the children, above, were born.
If Thomas Skuce was born in 1820 (and not 1804), that would make more believable the data which has him, after the death of Elizabeth Gosnell in 1969, having nine further children.
I would be interested in learning about any Skuce (or Skuse) family trees which you have available to you.
Thanks.
