Dear Mrs. Howe, several members of Skomerza family immigrated to the US between 1890 and 1914. All of them came from the town of Crikvenica (today in the Republic of Croatia - before the WWI in Austro-Hungarian Empire) and went to Seattle, WA. Name John was quite common in every generation of Skomerza family and in Croatian language is Ivan. My own great-great-grandfather (+1891) as well as his first cousin bore the same name. I do not know where and when that cousin died.
At the moment I am also looking for some members of Skomerza family (related through my mother - the a/m Ivan's sons) that immigrated to the US and went to Seattle: Josip (Joseph or Giuseppe)Skomerza comming through the Ellis Island on April 08, 1900 and his brother Luka Skomerza (Ellis Island: March 29, 1912). According to some procuration of January 09, 1914 at that time he was living in Seattle, WA. Do anybody knows wherebouts of the a/m brothers and their descendants?
