The following information is from an obituary clipped from an unknown Iowa paper: FUNERAL SERVICES AT COLO FOR BELOVED PASTOR SKOGSBERG. Colo, March 2: " ...Rev. S. Skogsberg, "beloved pastor of the Evangelical faith"... //"Following the service, the body was taken to Afton where a brief service was conducted by Rev. M. E. Shank and burial was made in the Afton cemetery beside the body of his departed wife.//Simon Skogsberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Skogeberg (sic), was born in Helgeboda, Eda county, Sweden, December 15, 1849, and departed this life on February 25, 1935, at Ames, Iowa, aged 85 years, two months and ten days.//He came to the United States in his young manhood. On September 7, 1886, in Hardin county, Iowa, he was united in marrigae to Miss Mary Elizabeth Haines. To this union were born seven children, six sons and one daughter, all of whom, with the exception of the oldest son, are living to mourn his death. The oldest son passed away on May 8, 1901 at Marshalltown, Iowa.//Two of the sons, Carl of Tulsa (sic--should read Oklahoma City), Okla., and Marion of Coon Rapids, Iowa were present at the funeral. The other sons, Vivian in California, Alfred and Logan in New Jersey, and the daughter, Mabel Walter and husband, who are missionaries in Africa, were unable to return at this time. The daughter and husband are to return to the homeland this summer... Mrs. Skogsberg died at Afton, Iowa, May 20, 1918.//...Answering the call to the ministry he was licensed to preach the gospel in 1882 by the Des Moines conference of the Evangelical church... He labored 42 years in the ministry... During his pastorate, he served the congregations at Story City, Marshalltown first church, Colo, Zearing, Iowa Center, Summitt and Afton Iowa.//June 16, 1920, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Elizabeth McCauley of Maxwell, Iowa, who survives him..."
