Hello,
I attempted to contact Ann Huntsman who wrote several messages on this forum in 2000 through 2002. I cannot reach her on her old address. I live in Meade County and have studied the Ray family of A.A. Co., MD and Ky counties, of Nelson, Washington, Marion, Larue, Meade, and Hardin for many years. One of the branches married into the Brashear family that also came out of Maryland. Anny Ray Brashears Cummins eventually settled and is buried near Sample, Breckinridge County, KY. One of her grandsons, Thomas Brashear, m. Henrietta Skillman in Meade County in 1844. They lived for many years before their deaths in Meade County on a farm between present day Payneville and Union Star, Ky. Thomas Brashear and his wife, Henrietta Skillman Brashear are buried in Union Star Cemetery which is about 8 miles into Breckinridge County on Ky 376, which also runs through Payneville in Meade County.
I'm trying to find Henrietta Skillman Brashear's parentage. I have a hunch that she could be a daughter of John Skillman and Polly Haynes Skillman. This couple were married in January 1820 in Breckinridge county, the bride's father was said to be William Haynes. The groom was a resident of Bourbon County, KY at the time of their marriage.
In William Haynes' will , recorded in Meade County, KY Will book B, p. 122, William Haynes names his many children, and one was Polly Skillman, who had preceded her father in death. He left $1600 to her children, but did not name them. A man named Christopher Skillman appointed Thomas Brashear of Meade County, KY to be his power of attorney to see after his interests in the estates of two men: Junious Skillman, Decd of Meade County and William Haynes, Sr., decd. of Meade County. I can find no will for Junious Skillman, but William Haynes' will was written in February, 1856 and was proven August 11, 1856. Christopher Skillman lived in Macon County, Illinois when he appointed Brashears his attorney at law in 1859.
If anyone can help me find the names of John and Polly Skillman's children, I would be very appreciative. Or if you have documentation that Henrietta Agnes Skillman has different parents, we would like to know that.
