Adoptee of Skidmore Family in Alabama...

My father was adopted between 1947 and 1950. His name on his birth certificate was: James Terry Skidmore. I don't know if his mother was single with maiden name of Skidmore or if this was her married name. My father refuses to talk about this issue so every time I mention it, he changes the subject. He believes that he was given up b/c he wasn't loved. I know that there could be several other scenarios but this is the one that he focuses upon. I don't care of the reason, I just would like to know "my family". I never felt connected to his adoptive parents; I always felt like something was missing. His adoptive parents are both deceased so I would like to research his "real" family. From what I have heard he was adopted from an orphange in Alabama. I have the receipt of his adoption that was filed in Jefferson County Alabama. His birth date is 10/20/1947. His adoptive parents live in Central Park in Jefferson County Alabama...this is where he grew up. Does anyone know of a Skidmore child that was put up for adoption around this time...I know that this might bring skeletons out of the closet but I feel that my father and myself have a right to grudges will be held. I just hate that might family tree stops at my aoptive grand-parents. I would like to know more. I would like to present him with this information if anyone has it to offer. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
