While searching at the Wellington County, Ontario archive I found a file on the family which included the ancient roots of the surname as well as the paricular family who had emigrated for Fergus, Ontario... George Skene and Barbara Hunter married in 16 May 1818 Fyvie, Aberdeen, Scotland, George being one of the children of Peter Skene and Jean Lakie 30 Apr 1773 Duddingston, Midlothian, Scotland. George and Barbara's son William Sangster Skene. He first married Margaret Black and had 6 children and then after her death, married my great Aunt Annie Powrie.

http://www.wcm.on.ca/archives_family-r.php is the archive list of the 600 families they have files on. If you write them, they will copy theSkene file and send you a copy.
