Elizabeth Skelly, came to America in 1884 with her sister Margaret Skelly. Elizabeth was 23 years old and Margaret was 16 years old. The sisters were the daughters of Hugh Skelly and Mary Ann Bennett. Their mother's sister was already in the States and Margaret was to serve as a companion to her aunt. Elizabeth was hoping to find a better life. The girls and aunt resided in Des Moines, Iowa. By and by, Elizabeth stayed and married, however Margaret became homesick and returned to Ireland. Descendants of Elizabeth are in America. It is not known what happened to Margaret, whom she married or who her posterity is. We would love to locate any living relatives of Margaret. Also, there are living descendants of Hugh's siblings children. We would love to locate any of these kin as well. Hugh was the son of John Skelly. It is thought that John Skelly originates out of Greenoch, Scotland, as that is where Hugh is believed to be born. John was the father of the following children: Robert, who inherited his father's estate in Saintfield. James, who was a tea taster for Lipton and lived in Ireland as well. William Matthew Mary Ann or Sarah Ann Elizabeth Hugh Any information anyone may have of this family, any living descendants, and about the Skelly's original homeland in Scotland, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance. Julie Notify Administrator about this message?
