George,

There are two Skelly/Skellie families in the Washington County, NY area.
My ggrandfather was Michael Skelly, married to Mary Collins. Their children were Mary, William, Kathryn, John and Margaret. I believe that they also had an aunt Margaret that lived with them. They had a farm in Greenwich, NY. Mary married William O'Connell and had Irene, Dorthy, and Theresa. Kathryn married a Jack Keely and lived in the Schuylerville, NY area. Margaret married Oscar Brown and lived in Schuylerville, as well.
If you look up the 123rd Volunteer Regiment, which was made up from residents of Washington County, (during the Civil War), there were several Skellie men enlisted. The name was spelled that way at that time. It seemed to have changed to Skelly around the time of the Spanish American War. You can find those participants listed in rosters of the New York State Military Museum. There are cemetaries in Argyle and Cambridge that have Civil War Dead with the Skellie name.
I wonder if we are related????
