How NICE to hear from you! Nice to have the date on Esther. Where is she buried? Maybe you could make a list for me and email me with her dob dod and marriage information and decendants. I have talked to Ron, but not in awhile.

I do know that Esther's brother, Allen, was murdered in Stokes State Forest in 1861 and I have an article about that if you want a copy. We do not know where he is buried, but his children are spread out. Hettie is buried in Layton, David is buried in Beemerville, George is in Branchville I believe, and there was a younger son named Isaac or Oscar that is believed to have gone to Port Jervis, NY. There are some Skellengers in the phone book for Port Jervis, so maybe I could contact them by mail. Or, maybe they will see this posting and answer!

The Skellenger website said that Allen's brother David perished in the cold, but I don't know where, must have been around here. David Skellenger was married to Sarah Ann Potter, and remarried the man that shot Allen Skellenger before the murder happened.

I have no idea where Allen is buried, I have no idea where his parents are either. Allen could be buried on the property where his house was, as that is where he was murdered. We have checked the plans for the Layton Cemetery and found nothing. I am sure his wife at the time had no money, she had four children. I do know that James lived with them and there is no mention of his wife, so 1847 or 1849 could be correct. Elizabeth "Betsy" or James could also be buried on that property. That is my mission this summer is to find where the house sat and then look for anything that could be a marker.

Did you find any neat photos of anyone, any papers that you can make copies of....?

Talk to you later, Miss Lisa!
