Joyce.I have a copy of and Indenture record obtained while at the LDS Library in SLC.It is microfilm roll #393,Locality of record is Pennsylvania, Title of record is RG6 Forests Waters Port of Philadelphia, Pilot Indentures,Years included 10 June 1815-6May 1833.In one part of this record, his name is written as Jeremiah Skellinger and in another as Jeremiah Schellenger. The record states that his mother Penelope Skellinger put him as apprentice to William Edwards (my ggggrandfather), a Pilot of the Bay and River Delaware, to learn his trade, etc. This was recorded on May 22 1826.
Later, the name spelled Shellenger, he was discharged by Master Wm Edwars. and bound with the consent of his mother, Penelope Clark, to Wm. Schellinger for the full Term of Two years from the 12th day of March 1832.
Jan 5, 1828, William Schellenger with the conscent of his mother Penelope White, late Penelope Skellenger, was apprenticed to Henry F. McCracken, A Pilot of the Bay and River Delaware.
My copies are not very good but I hope this will make your day.You should be able to get the records for yourself.
Iam also a Schellenger descendent (Jane Schellenger marr. John Barnes in Phil. They had Catherine who married my ggggrandfather William F. Edwards, also a pilot on the DE River.
