I thought I had posted a reply on this. Richard Skeggs, born Hertfordshire 1812 & migrated to Tasmania-then Van Diemans Land-Australia in 1841. I have the name of the ship somewhere, so I you can look up the passanger list if your interested.Richard had father George and Mother Elizabeth, they did not migrate with him. He may be related to Charles.
THe name Skegg or Skeggs came to th U K in the Norse viking invasions. The Name is very common in Trodheim Norway, and Skeggi in Norwegian, or rather ancient Norse, is pronounced Skeggs. A famous man was Iron Skeggi whom was a great bonder, whatever that was, and was killed outside the pagan temple by King Olav the first about 996 ad. It is mentionedin the book History of the Norse Kings in some detail. Olav married his daughter to try to correct the murder, but she attempted to stab him to death in the wedding bed.
