My Greatgrandmother was Deliah B. Skeens, her father was Peter Skeens. On the top of her marriage license to Emery Pack, it is spelled SKEENS. At the bottom of the license it is spelled SKEANS. Some Skeens in WV changed to Skeans to accomodate mispelled government checks after the Civil war. Can't fight city hall, so they just went along with the mispelling.
