Hello. My grandfather's name was Frank Skarka. He, his mother and sisters came from Czech. in around 1895. Grandpa was born in Predhradi, Czech. I don't know what happenened to his father. Grandpa was 17 years old at the time. Grandpa came to the Indian Territory (Oklahoma), and homesteaded around Hunter, Oklahoma. The banker whom he borrowed money from to start his farming business had trouble with the "Skarka" name, pronouncing it with an "ee" instead of "ah" at the end. The banker spelled it "Skarky", and it stayed that. My aunt sent me the following: (1982)

"Grandpa's full name was Benjamin Frank Skarky, born June 9, 1878. His mother's name was Anna, her maidin name was Pohanka. She was born in 1842, died 1910 and was born in Czech. It is possible Benjamin's father came to the States later and settled in Florida. Anna came to the US with Grandpa and his three sisters, (Marie, married to Antone Vencl in Czech., and the other two, Anna and Terricia were married here. They made their home first in Kansas and then moved to Oklahoma. Grandpa died Sept. 3, 1952.
Hope I was of some help.
