I spent a couple of hours looking through the tax and census records of Amherst County, VA and found that both the Richeson and Watkins families were established early in this county.

There was a SINGLE male by the name of Carland Richeson in the 1830 census records (about the time your Emily Elizabeth Watkins/Richeson was born).

Looking back further into the 1810 records Amherst County, VA had four Richesons ... John, Jesse, Mary (living on the estate of John) and Giles. There was also a John Watkins who had a large family...among them is a son age 10-16. I would like to know more about this JOHN WATKINS.

I'll be looking into JOHN WATKINS ... do you have any info in either of the WATKINS or RICHESON families?
