My Great Grandfather was James Cunningham Sivers. I have traced him back as far as his marriage cerificate on 23/1/1886 at age 16 in Rotherfield, Sussex where his surname is entered as Sivyer. His father is recorded as James Sivyer - Chimney Sweep. I suspect this may be the same James Sivyer as our family tradition has it that he married an Irish woman while on Army service. I also believe Cunningham was one of four boys but was unable to find him in the 1881 census. I would be grateful for any further information confirming or refuting my suggestion.

Regards,

Nick
