For anyone who is interested: George Seitz/Sites born Germany married Gertruat Lawall 18 Aug 1761 in Tohickon Reformed Church, Bucks Co., PA. Gertruat's sister Anna Margaret Lawall married Christoph Kettemann 3 Feb 1761 Tohickon Reformed Church Bucks Co., PA.
These girls were daughters of Daniel and Barbara Lawall. They had another sister Bernina who married Valentine Horn and two brothers, Philip and Ludwig.
George Seitz bought 97 acres of land on Long Run Southwest of present day Petersburg, W.VA. This land record is dated 1775 in Augusta Co., VA. As the State lines and county lines changed this land was first in Hampshire Co then in Hardy Co., VA. Now West VA.
Within seven years Daniel Caterman (Ketterman) had moved to Hampshire co, VA. as he is listed in the tithtables in 1782. In 1786 a road is built from Daniel Ketterman's house to the Seitz Mill on Spring Run.
Jacob Catterman (Ketterman) Daniel's brother buys 197 acreson Mill Creek in 1791.
George Ketterman, another brother witnessed the will of John J. Henkle Jr., his father-in-law in 1793 and in 1796 George buys 240 acres on the North Fork of the Potomac River near Harper's Mill.
History of Hardy County W. VA. shows a court record of a survey for a deed 18 Mar 1786 from Daniel Catterman (Ketterman) home to Conrad's Mill.
I believe Daniel, Jacob and George F. are sons of Christopher Kettemann and Anna Margaret Lawall. Daniel was born in 1762 in Berks Co., PA.
Christopher Kettemann moved to Frederick Co., MD prior to 1771 as when the rents are due a note is by his name as moved to PA. In 1771 tax list in Northampton Co., PA he is listed as Stoffel Ketterman, living close by is his father-in-law, Daniel Lawall, he again moved to MD this time Dorchester Co. and is listed in the 1790 census under Christian Kitterman. In 1790 he has 10 children still living at home. Most of these I have identified.
There are several Ketterman researchers that insist that Daniel, George F,. and Jacob had two other brothers , David and Abraham and are sons of a Daniel Ketterman. The only problem with this no one can find any proof what so ever that the older Daniel or David and Abraham ever exhisted. There are no land records, no census or tax records that list them. To make it even better. They also say the older Daniel had two brothers named Aaron and Charles and that the father of them all is Adam born in 1680 in Prussia but no one seems to be able to produce any proof of a ship, land, tax or church record that they exhisted either.
Yet I have found Christoff Kettemann coming to America from Grossgartach, Wuerttemberg, Germany on the ship Janet in 1751. From the same village a year earlier another Christoff Kettemann with two brothers Johan Georg and George and a sister Catharina come to America on the ship Patience in 1750. These two Christophers are related but I haven't figured out how yet nor do I have proof.
The Ketterman researchers say and can prove that Jacob Ketterman used the spelling of Ketteman in many records. When Jacob's sons move to Indiana the Kitterman spelling is used. The Kitterman spelling is also used in W. VA. in places.
I believe Daniel born 1762 in Berks Co., PA was named after his grandfahter Daniel Lawall. If anyone out there has any proof of a Daniel Ketterman with brothers Charles and Aaron and the fatherAdam Ketterman in Prussia will you please share your information or at least give us a clue as to where to look.
