Andrew Sites (1793-1882), Emanuel Sites (1813-1899)
Are you or a near relative a male-line descendant of either Andrew Sites, born 11 Dec 1793 in Lancaster County, Penn., and died 23 Jul 1882 in Columbus, Ohio, or Emanuel Sites, born 13 Jan 1813 inPennsyvania and died 9 Feb 1899 in Fairfield County, Ohio?
If you are, a Y-chromosome DNA test could prove your ancestors lived in Adelshofen, Baden, Germany. I have circumstantial evidence that Andrew Sites and Emanuel Sites are sons of Johann Andreas Seitz (b 1761), a nephew of my ancestor, Johannes Seitz (1740-1793).Johann Andreas apparently migrated to Pennsylvania from Adelshofen about 1791. I believe he is the Andrew Seitz, lockmaker, found on a list of taxable inhabitants in 1814-15 in Columbia, Lancaster County, Penn.
The evidence for Andrew Sites being the son of Johann Andreas Seitz is very strong. A song book given to Johann Andreas by his sister in Adelshofen was donated to the Ohio Historical Society by a granddaughter of Andrew Sites.
The evidence for Emanuel Sites' parentage is more a reasonable guess based on statements in Joseph Wenger's 1911 book, "History of the Descendants of Nicholas Beery."
However, in either case, a comparison of DNA results with the descendants of Johannes would prove or disprove the connection.Check out the Sides/Seitz/Sitz/Sites/Scites/Sights DNA Project at http://www/sideslines.org/SidesDNAProject.asphttp://www/sideslines.org/SidesDNAProject.asp
