The Sites family of the Seneca Rocks, WV, area, would most likely be George Seitz/Sites and his descendents, ofGrant and Hardy Counties, West Virginia. I have an extensive volume printed in 1984, "Genealogical Records of the Seitz/Sites Family" by John V. Beck and Suzanne Sites Gibson, printed by Fine Print, 1112 S. Morton, Bloomington, IN 47401. This history was begun as "An Outline of 'Sites' History" by Clinton Scott Sites, dated 17 Feb. 1938.
My mother and I visited a cabin at the foot of the rocks, as you describe. I believe I heard that this cabin is actually a replica. Distant cousins know more about the history (of this homestead) than I do, but I believe it was George's second son Jacob who may have had a homestead there. Ourbook says:
Jacob Sites, Sr., b. 7 Sept. 1768, Pennsylvania [1850 census] d. 16 Oct. 1851 Hardy County, Virginia (Pendleton Co.?) burined on a big hill overlooking the Seneka Rocks, Mouth of Seneca, Pendleton Co., WV. He married first (date of marriage bond) 4 Feb. 1791 Margaret Lough "spinster", d. ca. 1820; m. second wife 21 Jan. 1823 Pendleton, Co., Virginia, Catherine Hinkle , b. 1793 d. 1 Mar 1862.
