If my geography serves me correctly Branford lies on the Suwannee at a point where there is a bend in the river. It was earlier the site of New Troy, Lafayette County. I recently located on the internet (www.rootsweb.com) the Lafayette County, Florida Index for Reconstructed Tract Book which lists the original owners of the lands of that county. Among the Sistrunks who owned land on or near the river between the years 1855 and 1906 were William (1855) James and Thomas (his sons). The index identifies the properties in a manner which would make finding them relatively easy. My former wife descends from William and Sarah Sistrunk. Family lore says that they were 'killed'. The History of Troy Springs (see US gov't archives in Rootsweb) states that there was a lot of violence at the conclusion of the war in New Troy as it was a haven for union sympathizers and deserters. The homes of many loyal families were destroyed. That may have been their fate. Any information you may have regarding any of the above would be most appreciated.
