Sissel Family Genealogy Forum
Debbie, I grew up with the family legend that my grandmother See McCullough was an Indian. However, I have not been able to find from where. She looked Indian. Her parents were Mary Alice Henderson and Travis Mitchell Perry. They moved from Delta County Texas to Indian Territory now Oklahoma. They were too young to be the Trail of Tears Indians. They homesteaded Indian Territory.
Mary Alice Hendersons mother was Cassandra Sissell. I don't have much about them at all. What you responded to is what I have on them. I do know that Cassandra Sissell on one of the census said she didn't know where she was born and that led me to believe that she either wasn't very educated or could have been the Indian and actually didn't know where she was born. My Aunt Gwen Taylor told me once that the Indian blood came from one of her great grandmothers (ie great great great) and that her name was Kathleen St. James and that she was a Canadian Indian. I havent been able to find Kathleen St. James. I would be interested to know if there are any St. James in that cemetery. But as to Indian Blood, I have to say no, not now anyway. Peggy
