WilliamBrothers? Stephen Sisney b. abt 1794 & John Scot Sisney b. 1796
Sisney/Cisney friends, relatives, and researchers. I have been researching our Stephen Sisney and Dolly Holton family in detail for several months now. I have some questions and hope that one, or more, of you can answer what I am curious about. First, the Stephen Sisney/Cisney that was born to Thomas and Margaret in 1755 is not our Stephen. His Revolutionary War Papers prove that he served in the Continental Army and certainly was not a Tory as was Stephen Cisney from Guilford Co., NC and Christian Co., KY. This Stephen was placed on the Pension records 24 Sep 1819 and his pension commenced 23 Nov 1818 from Ross Co., Ohio. Stephen died 15 Aug 1823 at age 68 in Ohio.
It appears, but is not proven yet, that Stephen Cisney/Sisney the Tory was most likely born around 1745 and is the son of John Cessna and Priscilla Foulke. I have gathered a lot of information concerning Stephen from government records when he was first arrested in 1776 and ended up in jail in Halifax, Maryland. He escaped from the prison in Maryland and I have a description of what he looked like. Stephen Sysney a Pennsylvanian 5 feet 5 Inches high, a well proportioned man has a dimple in his chin, short dark brown hair, a hunting shirt, a brown shalloon jacket, leather breeches, and a pair of trousers, stockings, shoes and a large hat (Journal and Correspondence of the Maryland Council of Safety, July 7-December 31 1777, Vol. 12, p296 & 297.
If Stephen and Dolly were in their late or middle fifties in 1795 and 1795 it seems to me like perhaps they would not have been having children. Does anyone have any solid proof that William Stephen and John Scot were the sons of Stephen and Dolly or perhaps the grandsons.
I look forward to hearing from some of you that are researching Stephen the Tory.
