Hi Sisneys,
Trying to piece all the puzzle pieces in this website so I guess I will start with this question:
Can someone list for me the children of Stephen Sisney and Dolly Holton? I have the following:
Robert...............married Mary ???
William Stephen......married Elizabeth 'Betsy' Trover
John "Scotty"........married Matilda Tompkins
Elizabeth............married James Rea
Mary.................married Mr. Grace
Rachel...............married Mr.Taylor
There is record in N.Carolina that a Stephen Sisney/Cessna was disowned for “marrying out of unity” by the New Garden Monthly Meeting (Quakers)(Hinshaw) on Nov 13, 1968. Newn Garden was in Guilford Co, NC. This Stephen Cessna/Sisney would be the son of Priscilla Foulke and John Cessna of Newberry, York Co, Pa. So THIS Stephen Cessna/Sisney was married in 1768. Is this the same fellow who married Dolly Holton? What religion were the Holtons? /do we have a marriage date for them?
If THIS Stephen married Dolly in 1768 and had married out of faith, then this would prove that this Stephen was the son of John Cessna of Newberry, York Co, Pa who died in 1751. And NOT the son of Thomas and Patience Cessna/Sisney. Unless there is evidence that Thomas and Patience were Quakers also.
If Dolly married Stephen Sisney/Cessna in 1768, most likely they would have some kids born before 1785.....that's an 18 yr span between 1768 and 1785 when daughter Elizabeth was born. So who might the older children of Stephen and Dolly be?? I can see the second group of kids,....Robert, Willian Stephen ,John Scotty, etc being born after he gets out of prison for being a Tory. Also, note that a Jacob Elliott was also taken into custody for being a Tory and that would be Stephen Sisney/Cessna's 1/2 brother.......because Priscilla Foulke Cessna Elliott had about 7 or 8 more kids with Abraham Elliott in PA before they moved with the Quaker church to Guilford Co, NC and one was named Jacob.
