You may have this data all ready, but I found a census record - Year: 1900; Census Place: Perry, Lawrence, Indiana; Roll: T623 385; Page: 2B; Enumeration District: 71 that states a William Sipes born Oct. 1847 in Indiana age 47. Married to Mariah Sipes, Born Abt. 1835 was 65 years of age and was born in Indiana. No children and Williamís occupation was a Farmer.
I also found the 1880 census you mentioned (Year: 1880; Census Place: Springville, Lawrence, Indiana; Roll: T9_292; Family History Film: 1254292; Page: 496.2000; Enumeration District: 9; Image: 0835) Where a Mariah T Sipes born <1833> in Ind. age 47, both parents were from KY. Married to William Sipes born <1855> age 25 in Indiana, occupation farmer.
With your permission I would like to send you my data on this family, got many names. Like you mentioned there is a lot of Williams and Georges that lived in this region. The William Sipes mentioned above, I have not pegged yet, but Iím sure there is a connection. I do have a David W Sipes (b. 1864) son of George William Sipes Jr. (b. 1825 or 1833). David was a blacksmith in McCameron, Martin Co. Indiana. Anyway, if you would like I can send you my GEDCOM or reports on MS Word.
There is an ancestor by the name of George Siep Sipes (born 17 Mar 1760 in PA) who served in the Rev War and settled in Lawrence Co. Indiana. He had a lot of children who flourished in this area and surrounding counties. The reason I mention this is to check out this link http://stephenfranklin.tripod.com/sipegeor.html which is devoted to his service in the Revolutionary War, has some valuable information and people to contact that may answer you inquiries of the area.
My family line is from one of the sons of George Seip Sipes who was George Sipes (b1802) and died in 1882 in Baker IN. His decedents lived in central/southern Indiana for a couple of generations then moved on to Missouri. Another generation moved to Arizona and another generation eventually to California where I was born.
Hope this is helpful and that I did not blather too much. I only discovered my Indiana lineage over the past several months, so information is still sketchy and in the works. My source info is from census reports and World Tree entries that Iíve merged. I plan to go to Indiana soon to really dig for Info. Let me know if would like my data so far, so we can try to solve these mysteries.
