Thomas Singleton is my great-great grandfather. He died on 29 Jan. 1892 at his home in Trezevant, Tennessee in Carroll County. He was 82 years old. His death was reported in the newspaper "Carroll County Democrat". He was a farmer, notary public and a leader in his church and community. He and his wife, Martha Rummage Singleton were members of the Republican Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Trezevant. His name was recorded first on the list of male members. His name is on many deeds and transactions, his own and others. He always signed his name Thomas Singleton never William Thomas Singleton. His father's name was William and he had a brother named William. One of his own sons was William Thomas Singleton born March, 1851 in Carroll Co. TN. This William Thomas signed my great grandfather Richard Lafayette Singleton's marriage license as Thomas Jr. Martha Rummage Singleton was born on 10 June, 1820 in Maury County, Tennessee. She died on 15 February, 1901 in Trezevant. Thomas and Martha had 12 children. Unknown born 1838, Sarah Frances born 1840, Missouri Amazon born 1843, Nancy Emiline born 1845, James D. born 1847, twins Mary Angeline and Martha born 1849, William Thomas born 1851, John B. born 1855, Alfred Benton born 1857, Richard Lafayette born 1861 and Alice W.P. born 1863.
