I am posting my transcription of a Power of Attorney/Revocation document I found in the Monroe County Courthouse from John Dunham Singletary to Dunham Singletary. Previous to this document the original Power of Attorney was filed in Bibb Co where John was living previous to moving to Monroe Co Alabama. He owned a Plantation in Bibb Co so I believe he gave the POA to Dunham to disolve his debts and assets there in Bibb. Dunham was living in Monroe Co, GA in 1840 (1840 census although he later moved to Lafayette Co, MS. I would appreciate any and all further information about either Dunham or John his father if anyone has anything. According to the proof of this document, John was still living in 1842 although Ancestry, Rootsweb, etc. say he died in 1840. ----------------- May 4 1842 The State of Alabama Monroe County To all to whom these presents shall come Greeting-Whereas I, John D Singletary of the County and State aforesaid did heretofore by a certain instrument in writing or power of attorney, empower and authorize Dunham Singletary of the County of Monroe State of Georgia to be my Attorney in fact, in my name and for my use, to recover and receive all such monies, debts, effects, and dues whatsoever, as will due owing or payable unto me by divers persons not mentioned in the said power of Attorney and also to liquidate pay out and discharge divers debts against me not therein mentioned And also to do all other manners and things as fully as I myself might or could do for that purpose-or to that or the like effect as by the same writing relation thereto bring had more fully and at large appears- Now know ye that I the said John D Singletary for divers good causes, and valuable considerations have revoked recalled, countermanded and made void and by these presents do revoke recall countermand and to all intents and purposes make null void and of none effect the said recited writing or power of Attorney and all powers and authorities therein and thereby given and granted and all other matters and things therein or in any wise contained, and all acts, matters and things whatsoever- which shall on may be acted done or performed by virtue or means thereof in any manner whatsoever-In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the fourth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty two and of the Independence of the United States of America the sixty sixth year John D Singletary (seal) The State of Alabama Monroe County Be it remembered and made known unto all persons to whom these presents Shall come that personally came before me James M Coll Clerk of the County Court of Monroe County John D Singletary of the above County and State who acknowledges that he signed sealed and delivered the foregoing revocation of the Power of Attorney heretofore made to Dunham Singletary of the County of Monroe and State of Georgia and that his signature to the same is genuine Given under my and public seal of office this the 4th day of May in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty two and of the Independence of the Untied State of America the sixty sixth year James M Coll Clerk (seal) Filed for record May 4 , 1842 J M Coll clerk Karla kcorky24@ktc.com Notify Administrator about this message?
