Berkeley County SC
According to research done by my father, we think this is how we ended up here in Berkeley County
GEN 1. Richard b. c, 1599; d. 10-25-1967 Haverhill MA
GEN 2. Benjamin b. 4-4-1656 Haverhill MA; m. Mary Stockbridge 4-4-1678; moved to SC in 1695/96 and received a land warrant for 300 acres of land in SC in 1699. The had 8 children.
Although there is a question about which of Benjamin's sons we are descended from, my father believes and land deed clues point to his youngest son
GEN 3. Joseph b. 2-9-1692/3 Haverhill MA; d. after 1-25-1737 in Berkeley County SC. Received a warrant for 450 acres in 1709; 505 acres in 1709 beside John Dunham who received land the same day. Joseph had 5 children...
Gen 4. Benjamin b. c. 1765/75 Four Hole Swamp, Berkeley County SC.
There seems to be a gap in information about Benjamin, Jr.'s date and place of birth. What we do know is that
Gen 5. Benjamin, Jr. purchased 500 acres of land bordering on Four Hold Swamp in 1806. He lived lived beside his father in the 1800 census. Benj., Jr. was involved in litigation with his brother Joseph over the administration of his father's will in ___ and there is no record of him after that.
The next concrete information we have is of my great grandfather
Benjamin Matthew (B.M.) Singletary b.5-7-1838 d. 7-18-1896 in upper Berkeley County. He married Mary A. who died 12-28-1910, aged 67 years according to thier toomston at Friendship Methodist Church, Cross, SC. They had 10 children, including my grandfather:
Joseph Matthew Singletary b. 7-9-1873, d.2-19-1942, m Charlotte (Lottie)E. Mims b.4-16-1882, d. 4-15-1936. They are buried at St. Johns Baptist Church, Pinopolis, SC. They had 10 children, including my father:
Clarence Edward Singletary b. 3-16-1918 m. Pollie Obear Lacour b. 8-2-1950. They had 3 children
Kathryn Hannah Judson Singletary (b. Nancy Judson)
Judith Lacour Singletary
Clarence Edward Singletary, Jr. b. 11-21-56 d. 6-6-05 inCharleston SC
Well, that's what I know, it may be of help so someone else and maybe someone has info so I'll be able to fill in the Benjamin gap.
