Davidson's of Singapore and Burma

Hello readers,
I am seeking any information on Robert Joseph and Annie DAVIDSON who came to Singapore from Rangoon bet: 1897 and 1925 with their family, including their son, George Robert DAVIDSON, who became a ships or marine engineer.
George married Gwendoline THOMASZ, one of four THOMASZ sisters, in 1927 at the Cath of the Good Shepherd.

Also wanted, reasons for families to move from Rangoon to Singapore? Q Did British regiments move people between these cities? Q Was there a Naval prescence at Rangoon? Were there Civil Service establishments at both these places?
Q Was there a census in Singapore abt: 1900 ?

Lots of questions, no ideas where to look!
Any ideas gratefully received,
Thank you
Julian UK
