Dear Alice I saw your enquiry regarding Josephine Adams. I have a lot of information and documents relating to British Malayan families including p'copies of pages of the 1940 Malayan Directory which list British Malayans by the thousand but also pencilled in by the original owner, Captain Nelson are details of hundreds of others including escapers/evacuees from Singapore and what he heard happened to them. Unfortunately I don't have the first few 'A' pages but the original is kept at the Dept of Documents, Imperial War Museum. I'm sure if you e mailed them they would check that page for any relevant pencil note which might provide you with a clue. As you will know, well over 200 British Malayan women and children of all races lost their lives at sea 13.2.42-18.2.42 escaping Singapore on ships like the Giang Bee, Kuala and Tanjoeng Pinang. Not all are recorded in the Commonwealth War Graves Register. Do you happen to know the name of the British Military family that Josephine was Nanny to or do any names occur in her letters - I might just have some details there. yours sincerely Jonathan Moffatt Coventry UK co-author MOON OVER MALAYA: A TALE OF ARGYLLS AND MARINES Notify Administrator about this message?
