Hi, Pam --
I didn't realize what a quagmire I stepped into! What I know for sure at this point is that my Sienses (descendants
of John Siens, b. 1789) and your Sineses (descendants of
Absalom) were closely connected in early Guernsey Co.As I
mentioned, my grandfather Harold L. Siens, partly raised by
his grandfather William M. Siens, loved to tell family stories, which all apparently emanated from William, since
Harold was not born until 1884.He frequently mentioned
Absalom and Adam Sines and referred to them as cousins, but
since this all took place before I was twelve or so, I can't
dredge up more details right now.
My father and grandfather went on a sort of genealogy tear
in the l950's, contacting people and county offices all over
WV and OH.My sister has all of their notes, which I will
try to get a look at in the next few weeks. My grandfather
would certainly have known exactly who Absalom was; the
problem is whether or not he wrote it down!
At this point, I have to confess that I made a sort of
educated guess based on Kathleen Fitzgerald's Sines data as
to what the exact relationships might be, and this is why
the dates appear to fit.I haven't been able to find out
what Kathleen's documentation is yet, and the more I look at
some of the postings the more confusing it gets.
I'm in Chicago right now but will probably be moving soon.
Will keep you posted, and thanks for writing.
