Re: Thomas Sims dec 1854 Abbeville, SC

Arthur and Jane Sims are my gggrandparents.
I learned of the maiden name of Jane Dixon from death certificates on a couple of her children. It further states on one death certificate that Jane was from England.I have been unable to confirm this information on any other sources. All census records of Jane from 1850 to 1870 indicate she was from SC and the 1880 census which lists:
Sims, Arthur W.W M 74FarmerSC Virinia Virginia
JaneW F 68wife Keeping SC Ireland SC
House
Elizabeth S W F 25dauSCSCSC
Year: 1880; Census Place: Martin, Anderson, South Carolina; Roll: T9_1219; Family History Film: 1255219; Page: 300.1000; Enumeration District: 32; .
I have not yet found anything on their marriage date, however, I can assume it was in Abbeville/Anderson SC since that is the only place Arthur is found from 1840 - 1880.
Jane and Arthur are buried in Maysville, Jackson Co. GA with their son and his wife, Samuel and Mary Burton Sims.It is a small family cemetery on the land formerly owned by Martin Eberhart (unsure of relation? if any).
I found this cemetery in the source; 30,638 Burials in Georgia; Jeannette Holland Austin.
As a matter of fact, that is how I found my gggrandparents, Arthur and Jane because I was actually looking for my ggrandfather, Samuel, his son.And they were all buried together.
In this cemetery are (as transcribed personally from tombstones):
Arthur Sims Died May 5, 1886 Age 79 YRS 7 MOS 1 DY
Jane SimsDied Sept 27, 1886 Age 69 YRS 8 MOS 11 DY
Samuel S. Sims Sept 24, 1845 Sept 9, 1900
M.A. Sims Jan 15, 1842
(Arthur and Jane share one tombstone also Samuel and Mary share a tombstone, rather large tombstones about 5 ft tall)
Other related family in this cemetery (known) is Sophia Burton (mother of M.A. - Mary Ann - Burton Sims) and Charles and Edward Sims (Children of Samuel and Mary Sims that died in childhood).
From this information, Arthur and Jane moved to Georgia sometime after the 1880 census.

Notes for Mary Ann Burton:
>From Pauline Young's book 'Abstracts of Old Ninety Six and Abbeville

The parents of Mary Ann (Polly) Burton are Sophia (Smith?) 1823-1879 and Josiah Burton (died in Mexican War when Mary Ann was a child).Sophia Burton is buried in the Eberhart Browning Sims cemetery with Arthur and Jane Sims; Samuel and Mary Burton Sims.
Sophia is listed in the 1850 census:
The 1850 census entry for family # 1305 reads:

Then in 1860:

brother to Rebecca Smith) Living with Rebecca is Sophia BURTON aged 37 who is Sophia (Smith) Burton and Mary A. BURTON aged 17

Sophia Burton (Smith) is also listed in a will of Sophia Smith (Ashley) who I believe to be her mother:
> From Pauline Young's book "Abstracts of Old Ninety Six and Abbeville
> Dist. Wills and Bonds" the Will of Sophia Smith dated Oct 21, 1853,
> filed Nov 16, 1853 mentions as witnesses: Joshua Ashley, John T.
> Haddon, David Russell. Children: Rebecca, Sophia, Daniel Smith.
> Inventory made Feb 4, 1854 by J.W. Black, Thos., Davis, David Russell.
> (Box 135 Pack 3852).
Sophia Smith (Ashley) is a daughter of William ASHLEY and widow of Daniel SMITH.
The following were named to appraise her estate:
Ezekiel TRIBLE
J. W. BLACK
David RUSSELL
Thomas DAVIS
Aaron ASHLEY
John T. HADDON was appointed Administrator - "with will attached" since
Sophia did not name an executor in her will.
The will reads as follows:
State of South Carolina In the name of God

I Sophia Smith
being in a low state of health but of a sound
and disposing mind and knowing that it is appointed
once for all men to die do make this my last will and
testament in the following manner {Viz} first I resign

to god who gave it.
2nd I will and bequeath to my daughter Rebecca and my

which I now live and also my stock of cattle and hogs and
the balance of my property.

States of America.

She named two of the children who are listed in the bible record
which was sent to Washington in support of her mother's
pension application - Rebecca born 17 Aug 1810 and Daniel
born 6 Jan 1824. However, Sophia, aged 26 on the 1850
census is not listed on the bible record (or the pension office
clerk failed to transcribe it).
Okee Dokee, this is probably way too much Ashley/Smith/ Burton info for a Sims family but it is something I'm presently working through that might be of interest to my particular line.

This is the information that I've collected to date on Arthur Sims and Jane Dixon and their decendants.
Based on the will of Thomas Sims b abt 1765, Arthur Sims is a child of Thomas Sims who died 1854 in Honea Path, Abbeville South Carolina.
It seems Arthur is the only child of Thomas Sims that stayed in the Anderson/Abbeville South Carolina area and the other children of Thomas moved to Mississippi and Alabama.
I have been as detailed as possible as this is the only information that I've seen posted on the children of Arthur and Jane Sims and for Samuel and Mary Burton Sims.
