I also have a Simpkins brick wall and wonder if Daniel is my connection. I have a Maysie (Martha) Simpkins married to Travis Lawson on 04 Jan 1788 in Montgomery County, VA. According to census records, Maysie (Simpkins) Lawson was born in 1770 and was also born in New York. According to Montgomery County Personal Property Tax records (1787-1812)Travis and Martha Lawson are found living in Montgomery County, VA in close proximity of James Simpkins until they leave the county in 1808-1809 for Kentucky. I can not say for sure whether I saw the Bishop family in the same area during this period or not. There was no mention of Daniel during this time frame (1787-1812) in Montgomery County, VA.

I would like to learn more about Daniel for records. Do you have any specific information on him. Obviously, this line is a brick wall for me as well.

I should note that the Lawson family has a tradition that there is Native American blood going back to Travis Lawson's line. The book "Simpkins Ancestors in Pioneer Days 1729-1980" written by Laura Simpkins Glover, suggests that James, born 1729, was married to a Native American. Are there similar traditions in your family?
