My name is Jeremy Rich, and I'm a professor of African history at Middle Tennessee State University. I am trying to find any relatives of Ida Vera Simonton (1871-1930), a Pittsburgh-born writer and activist who travelled to Gabon and the Belgian Congo between 1906 and roughly 1908. She wrote a book, Hell's Playground, which eventually was turned into a movie in 1942 with Hedy Lemarr. I have found some papers at the Smithsonian that cover her time in Gabon, and would be interested to know if anyone has any of her letters or writings.
