We now have 4 Simontonís who are in various states of participation but are registered with the Simonton Group DNA project. There is one Simonton who has subscribed for a test that is not a part of the Group. We chose to keep the group a private group as opposed to a public group which means that anyone who does not declare that they will be a part of the Group will not be able to compare their DNA results with others that are Simontonís. The only participants that will have their DNA compared to see if there is a relationship with other Simontonís which is the primary reason for doing this, will not be able to do so. We would encourage anyone who will participate to contact Vernon Helmke, Group Administrator, e-mail and either order through Vernon or let him know you have ordered the Kit so we can compare DNA within this family. If the group votes to open this group up and make it public, this can be done later. It will be Necessary to do this in the future in order to compare with the Dixson Group, the Douglas Group and the Keith Group to prove the connection to these families 700 years ago.
The expectations are that similarities in DNA will prove the Relationship between the Simontonís that came to America in the 18th Century and to what degree. The next expectation will be to see if there is a Relationship with the Symington Families in America and in Ireland and Scotland as well as Canada, England and Australia.
It will take probably several years to get enough people to have their DNA tested and compared before we find out the various answers.
THEREFORE If you can identify a MALE SIMONTON OR SIMANTON, OR SYMINGTON and get them to take the 25 marker test for $169.00 plus shipping which is $3.00 in America and probably $5.00 to a foreign Country, being a Family Tree Maker Program, please do so and contact the group administrator.
On the Web, go to www.FamilyTreeDNA.Com and details will be explained or the group administrator will explain them. As soon as we have some completed tests with results, I will create a mail list so individuals can contact each other with the approval of each person only. I want to again comment that the Test results are kept in a vault in a University and can not be accessed by anyone unless the individual has given or will give permission to access the information. The only information that will be compared is a group of 25 numbers and if there are matches, it will show who matches for what DNA number. Not being a scientist, I do not understand the science and will depend on Family Tree Maker to explain the results as we get them.
