Simonton, Smith, Sherwood, Outhouse, New York
I have a couple of Simonton Smiths I am trying to connect with the Simonton family. I have a Simonton Smith (1816-1842) of Ontario, Canada, who married a lady named Margaret Kennedy (1819-1861) in Ontario on February 7, 1842. This Simonton was the son of John Smith and Millie Sherwood, who were married 1810 in in the Niagara area of Ontario. Both were from families involved in the Revolutionary War (1776-1783), apparently with an English Army base in or near Manlius Village, New York. Both families (Smith and Sherwood) seem to have been on the English side.
Prior to that, I have in the previous generation, a Simonton Smith, born prior to 1799, the child of James Smith and Anna Outhouse, also Loyalists, married 1785 in Haverstraw, Orange County, New York. This Simonton Smith married a young lady known as Margaret Canada (born 1810 in Schoharie, New York) in Ontario.
I see from the work of others that there was a marriage of a Theophilus Simonton to a Mary Smith. Can anyone tell me more of this event, or of any other Smith/Simonton event?
