Jean and all,
I am researching Simontons in ME.Records are scanty for ME, as it was part of MA until 1820, I believe. Some later records separate it out, but many list as Mass.
I have Theophilus Simonton as b. 1675 Conestoga, Lancaster, ME, married to Mary Smith c.1690, and d. 1757 Rowan Co., NC.
There is so much confusion in this line, as so many of the children have similar names each generation!
Interesting aside here....Distant cousin contacted me and tipped me to more history in Scotland when this family was named Lockhart/Lockard.Next trip to Salt Lake City, I found a lot of stories and info. on this Scottish line, which later became Symontown then Simonton when William came to the colonies - at least that's how some stories go!Lots of work still to do on this line!
