Perhaps Alfred Simonson was the son of William Ashby and Mary Simonson? See 1820 census of Washington Twp., Knox County, Indiana: Mary Simonson 3000000011 William Asby 000001 Simonson and Asby are enumerated right next to each other. Also in that twp. are many Hollingsworths, a family known in Union County SC, and Mumford Bicknell, whose wife I seem to recall was a Nancy Ashby. I once saw a reference to a Hollingsworth, I believe, of Knox IN, who sold land in Union County SC that had been granted to James Ashby in 1796. The name Ashby sometimes appears as Asby, more frequently it is mis-read as Ashly or Ashley. You will find a William Ashby in the 1800 Union County SC census, also a John Ashby, who may be his brother. See my postings on Ashby forum. According to John Ashby's descendants, the Union SC Ashbys came from Virginia. I note you have a Nancy Scane mentioned in conjunction with Magnus Simonson's will. Nicholas Skain in Union SC was md. to Rachel Ashby. Postings about this also on Ashby forum. Notify Administrator about this message?
