John SIMONS/SIMMONS b 1808 - Ireland>IL>? = Confusion

Greetings
I am researching my 3rd great grandparents.
I've found them in both the 1850 and 1860 Federal Census for IL. But here is the catch... It seems like two different sets of people. If it were not for the fact that all of the children's name remained the same I would have over looked it.
1850 Cenus: Brown Co. IL
John SIMONS b. Ireland - 1808
Elizabeth KY - b 1811 - in her daughter's DC it says her last name was YOUNG and she listed her first name as Mary.
Their children in 1850 were: Mary J., Newman, Eli, Soloman, Martha(my second great grandmother), Sarah, Mahalia, and Louisa. - ALL children listed as being born in IA

1860 Census: Pike Co. IL
John SIMMONS b. Ireland - 1806
Mary b. IL - 1812
Their children in 1860 were: Eli, Soloman, Mahalia, Sarah, Clinton, and John. - ALL children now listed as being born in IL

ANYWAY - if anyone can help with this mess, and find out what happened to these people after 1860..(I've got Martha Agnes SIMONS information - She married James M. ROSE of OH) I would greatly appreciate it.

Tom
