I have only just discovered your message on Genforum and it is most interesting.
My grandmothers name was Guiseppina Simonelli and she was born in Sondalo in 1870. She came to Australia on the ship 'Hohenzollern' which arrived in Melbourne in May 1894. A fortnight later she married Battista Pozzi. Three years later they all moved to Cue in Western Australia. She died in Newcastle NSW in 1954. She had seven children who are all now deceased, but there are plenty of descendents.
I have never been able to trace any of Guiseppina's family, but seeing your grandfather came from Sondalo there may be some connection? - or you might have come across some other Simonelli's from Sondalo which might give me a clue.
I hope this message is of some interest to you.
