"John SYMONDS of Salem, Mass.John Symonds, the early settler of Salem, Mass., was granted land there near the North River in 1636.On 29:1?:1669, aged about 74 years, he deposed in the case of Ingersol vs. Barney (Essex Quarterly Court Files). His family in Salem consisted of a wife Elizabeth and four children to wit:JAMES (he deposed on 24 June 1685, aged about 50 years (Suffolk Court Files no. 2339)); CATHERINE married Jacob TOWNE; RUTH married Job SWINNERTON, JR.; and SAMUEL born in Jan. 1637/8.John's will, dated 16 Aug., 1671, was proved 19 Sept. 1671 (Essex County Probate).
The following items show that John Symonds came from Great yarmouth, co., Norfolk, England, and that Elizabeth was his seond wife. She was perhaps the mother of his youngest child Samuel.Dr. Bentley in his "Diary" (ed. Essec Institute) notes that he saw the papers in an old law suit of James Symonds (son of John), which stated that John came from Great Yarmouth, co. Norfolk, where he married Ruth FOX.He expected to inherit lands in Norwich.
SEE "From the Parish Register of St. Nicholas, Great Yarmouth, co. Norfolk, Baptisms"
Please let me know if you think Samuel is the only son of Elizabeth. This is as far as I can go with Elizabeth BLOTE (BLOT?) and John SYMONDS.
