One of the problems I believe is Meriwether Lewis Clark the son of William Clark went to west point with Robert E Lee. People tell me that CSA Col Meriwather Lewis Clark served directly under General Robert E Lee in Richmond VA.
Because of the Lee connection, I believe records were destroyed on the part of the Lewis and Clark Expedition from Harpers Ferry to Pittsburgh and then from Pittsburgh to St Louis.
I am trying to piece it together by cemetery records in Pittsburgh. If I can read this correctly, all these families are related to the Lee's of Robert E Lee through the Lees of Gov Thomas Sim Lee of Maryland. I sometimes wonder if that name Sim is really Simms.
For sure Fielding Lewis Jr married Nancy Ann Alexander. I understand that Alexandria VA was named after that Alexander family.
I have a Kentucky court ordered Will of General Alexander Spotswood with my ggggrandfathers name listed as a relative. General Spotswood was married to Elizabeth Washington. Their son Alexander M Spotswood was married to Elizabeth Lewis the daughter of Fielding Lewis Jr and Ann Alexander. Fielding Lewis Jr was the son of Fielding Lewis Sr and Betty Washington the sister of George Washington.
I believe these families of Lewis and Clark are much closer then Historians want to believe.
