Did Maj. John Simmons build the Old Brick Church (oldest english building)?
I see in the Virginia, Isle of Wight, Vestry book 1724-1772 images 36-38 at familysearch.org, that Major John Simmons was appointed Vestryman and given #17,000 for the chapel in 1733.The Old Brick Church in the Isle of Wright, VA and was supposedly built in 1732 and is the oldest standing building in the US built by the English.
Also, does anybody know his ancestry and/or descendants?Especially any that might have migrated to Johnston County, NC.
