Becky,
As I noted in my response to the 12 September 2000 post by Patty (Simmers) Stallings about the obituary of her grandfather, William Henry Simmers, the Missouri State Archives has created a database of digitized Missouri Certificates of Death from 1910 to 1958 (http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/).The database has a searchable index that links to a digitized image of the original death certificate. You can search by last name, first name, county (114, plus St. Louis City), and death year.
The Missouri death certificates database holds a digitized Missouri Certificate of Death for Lauren Lafayette Stallings. Some of the information it includes [my notes in brackets] is:

In 1900, a Lorin W. Simmers (b. January 1857, Indiana), day laborer, was listed as head of a household in Keokuk City, Jackson Township, Iowa.In addition to wife Mary L. (b. July 1862, Ohio), the household included daughter Ethel M. (b. May 1884, Kansas), son Lorin L. (b. March 1886, Kansas), and daughter Gladys L. (b. January 1899, Kansas).
I don’t know where Lauren and Mary Simmers were living in 1910.
On the 1920 census, Loran W. Simmers (62, b. Indiana) and Mary L. Simmers (58, b. Ohio) were living in Douglas County, in south-central Missouri.
Coincidentally, or perhaps not, the Missouri death certificates database has a death certificate for John L. Simmers, who died in Douglas County, Missouri. His death certificate included this information:
Date of Death: --?-- May 1946
Place of Death: Roy (rural), Douglas County
Cause of Death: Cardiac failure
Usual Residence: Roy (rural), Douglas County
Age at Death: 85 years; 1 month; unknown days

I hope this provides some clues.
Happy hunting,
Clete
