Margaret: I will post on genforum as well but you posted over a year ago and might not find my answer there. You posted, Hi. I have a family in the 1870 census that I would like to know more about: Dwelling #78 John SILVA 36 Fisherman b.Western Isles Mary " 30 Keeping house b.Western Isles Angeline PIERSON 23 No Occupation b.W.I. Mary " 8 b.MASS John " 7 b.MASS Dwelling #82 Joseph SILVA Jr. 29 Fisherman b.W.I. Mary J. " 20 Keeping House b.W.I. Frank PIERSON 31 Fisherman b.W.I. Mary A. " 32 Keeping House b.W.I. Mary " 9 b.MASS Rosa " 5 b.MASS MaryAnn " 3 b.MASS I believe that Angeline PIERSON may have been a SILVA and her husband was Joseph PIERSON. I think he had died by this census. I think that Frank PIERSON was her brother-in-law. By 1880 Angeline is re-married to Manuel ROSE and they are living in Alameda, California. But they had a son named William ROSE born in Massachusetts around 1872. Does anyone connect with this SILVA family? Thanks, Margaret ------------------ I suspect my family may have connections with this Silva family though it's hard to say of what sort. Manuel Francis, later to take the name Bandura, came with maybe a brother or cousin, Antone Francis later to take the name Bandura, and his definitely sister Mary F. (probably Mary Francis. They lived in Cohasset by 1863, and she must have been around in 1853 because that is when she married Antoine P. Joseph from Portugal and not related to the other Joseph's in Cohasset, in Cohasset. However, while all other records identify the parents in Fayal as Andrew/ Andre Francis and Rozaria or Rozile, Mary's marriage record calls her Mary Silva, and her parents Andrew/ Andre (whichever) and Rozaria Silva. I am wondering if that is because she was previously married to a Silva who died, or because the name Silva can be added to the list of surnames that this family used. It appears that Manuel, her brother, married in Boston in 1859, and their first child, born in 1861 or 1862, may ahve been born in Gloucester as that is the only place where child and parents of the right names had the child at the right time in the Massachusetts records, that has yet been found. (Those records are nto easy to search for names that change like this). I'd be interested in what you or anyone else knows about this. By the way, you should look at the Genealogies of the families of Cohasset, Massachusetts; it can be downloaded for free in pdf format at http://www.archive.org/details/genealogiesoffam00dave Notify Administrator about this message?
