Hi Kara, Eliza M. Silliman and four children; Mary, 17 years, Charles F., 15 years, Jessie M., 6 years, and Frederick E., 4 years, plus Deborah Silliman, 70 years and Martha Burr, 69 (?) years are listed in the 1870 CT census, M593, Roll 97, Vol. 1, dwelling unit 182, family # 183. My records indicate that Eliza was the widow of Nathaniel L. Therefore, your info and mine agree. The 1880 CT Soundex lists Deborah Silliman, 81 years and John Mcnie 44 years S.L. born in Scotland and John S. Mcnie 6 years G.S. born in NY. They were in Easton, Fairfield County, CT. The Soundex data is T739, Roll 21, 1 122 9 22. I suspect that the indication that John Mcnie was the S.L. (son in law) of Deborah must be in error. He was probably the grandson in law and John S. Mcnie was a greatgrandson of Deborah's instead of grandson. I have that Deborah Staples married Nathaniel Silliman, son of David and Katherine (Lord) Silliman. Donald Lines Jacobus in his 'History and Genealogy of the Families of Old Fairfield' says in a note at the bottom of page 910 (Vol II, Part 2), 'Their son [John and Patty (Banks) Staples] Horace d. at Weston 1897 ae. 96; and in 1903 their dau. Deborah (widow of James Silliman) was living in Easton ae. 103 (b. 21 Feb. 1800), while another son was living ae. 96.' Jacobus also indicates that Nathaniel Silliman was born 1 Jan. 1792 and died at Easton, 6 Nov. 1825 ae. 33 (g.s.). Page 874 Vol. II, Part 2. Notify Administrator about this message?
