“Robert Taylor Silliman, 83, of Windsor, beloved husband of Priscilla (Huntingtin) Silliman, died Wednesday, (November 5, 2003) at Hartford Hospital. He was born in Hartford, son of the late Benjamin H. and Jeanette (Taylor) Silliman, and was a life long resident of Poquonock. Robert graduated from John Fitch High School in 1938 and received a 12-year perfect attendance certificate. Bob served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II with the 57th Bomb Wing in the African Corsica Theatre from 1942-1945. He was a personnel manager for Imperial Tobacco Corp., later owned Camp Supply, Inc. and also owned/operated an egg distribution center, Winding Brook Farm, in Granby. He became president of the Windsor Historical Society and until his retirement in 1999, was the director of the Historical Society. Robert also seved as director of the Connecticut Historical Society, was a member of the Connecticut League of Historical Societies, a founding member of the Descendents of the Founders of Ancient Windsor, a member of the Antiquarian and Landmark Society, the historian for the Town of Windsor, chairman emeritus for the Second School Society, and chairman of the Town of Windsor Planning and Zoning Committee. Bob was a retired member and historian of the Poquonock Fire Department and the historan for the 57th Bomb Wing Association. He was a life long member of Poquonock Community Church and served on many church committees. For all of his community activities ans services, he was named by the Windsor Chamber of Commerce as Citizen of the Year in 2002. Besides his wife, Robert is survived by a son, William Silliman and his wife, Holly of Windsor; two daughters, Martha Themaras of Windsor, and Mary Myers and her husband, Calvin of Broad Brook; and six grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband, Brian Rouleau, Christine Myers and her fiance’, Nick Marschall, Erika and Evan Themaras, and Amy and Tyler Silliman. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, George Themaras; a granddaughter, Jacquelyn Silliman; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Frederick Silliman, Dr. Warren B. Silliman, and Louise Silliman. A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 8, 10:30 a.m., at the Poquonock Community Church, 1817 Poquonock Ave., Poquonock section of Windsor, with the Rev. Lloyd R. Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, Windsor. His family will receive friends TODAY, November 7, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., at the Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Ave., Poquonock section of Windsor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Windsor Historical Society, 96 Palisado Ave., Windsor, CT 06095 or the Second School Society, c/o Lee Alford …”
