2003 Silliman Reunion
We have been very quiet for the last month but I would like you to consider a Silliman reunion for next year in Kentucky. I especially would like to hear from any descendants of William Henry Silliman who was born in 1818 in Bedford, New York and married in Louisville, Kentucky. There are quite a few of us who have spread out of Kentucky to Indiana, Ohio, Florida,Texas, Missouri, California and elsewhere. All descendants of Daniel and Peaceable are invited! Kentucky is centrally located from any part of the country and there are many things of interest to be found. More about that later. The thing I would like to focus on is sharing our research. We have all done research on our own lines and our lines overlap. Most of us descend from Robert and Sarah Hull Silliman who had seven children: Ann, Nathaniel, Sarah, Robert, Martha, Rebecca and Ebenezer. (I actually have two Ann's listed but know little about either?) I would like to get the descendants of each of Robert and Sarah's children together as a group to share info. I descend from Ebenezer and know there were others at our first reunion in Fairfield two years age. There were also many who descended from Robert, etc.
If anyone is interested in getting together for informitive sessions, please respond. One thing Kentucky has is the Kentucky Derby.I don't think you would want to come at the time of the actual event - but a tour of Churchill Downs or attending a day at the Downs duringthe spring or fall meet would be nice. We also have Mammoth Cave and Kentucky horse farms and lots of cemeteries where Sillimans are buried, including one in New Albany, Indiana, Fairfield Cemetery, where some very interesting Sillimans are buried. William Silliman, oldest son of Gen. Gold Selleck Silliman and his first wife is buried there along with his wife, Phoebe and two of their daughters, Mary Ann and Catherine, and some of Williams grandchildren. William's younger brother, Benjamin, we all remember from our visit to Yale University. Benjamin's son, Benjamin, taught at the University of Louisville before he returned to Yale to continue his fathers work there.
